Christmas is Alright

A client asked me today about the potential for pet injury because of lighting, trees, plants, decorations, packages, and other things related to the holiday season. I think my answer was a bit trite but it was “there are so many things, use caution and judgement”. Typically a “child-safe” home can easily be a “pet-safe” home. In years past we had the tinsel ingestion patients, the light strand biters, the ornament eaters, and more. Today the tinsel is gone but those little danglies and smell-good candies are abundant. SO back to the answer—”..use caution” but have a Merry Christmas and of course, Happy New Year!!!

Another Recall!

The FDA issued this statement of recall a few days ago.  Hopefully these are limited but once again, I, for one, appreciate the diligence of the FDA and the companies involved.

“Animal Rescue—Transporting Fido Across State Lines”…AVMA Welfare Focus Nov 9, 2011

Dr. Martha Smith-Blackmore and Mr. Glenn Kolb

Ask us about flu vaccine for your dogs.

It is that time of year again for us.    Today on the local news, a reporter was imploring us all to get our flu shots and do so soon.  We believe immunization for your dogs is also important.  We have treated several patients with flu-like symptoms including coughing, sneezing, and fever.  Some have been “very ill”.  We have not experienced adverse events with the vaccine and believe it safe and wise to use.  Certainly, the more exposure one has the higher the risk.  The article launched by this click is quite informative. Call one of our nurses for information or stop by.
